Milk protein concentrate (MPC): casein and whey together.
Where whey alone is too thin. Milk protein concentrate keeps the proteins of milk in their natural ratio, mostly casein with whey, which gives body, creaminess and a slower protein release in finished products. We supply several MPC grades from EU dairies, including MPC85, from 300 kg; tell us your product and we propose the grade that fits. The full specification comes with your quotation.
Milk protein concentrate (MPC) is skimmed milk filtered so that the milk proteins, casein and whey in their natural ratio, are concentrated and most lactose and minerals are removed, then spray-dried. Its casein gives thickness and a creamy texture, which suits protein puddings, yogurts, bars and thicker shakes, or a second protein next to whey. MPC grades differ in how far the protein is concentrated; higher grades carry less lactose. Nordic Life Systems supplies several grades from EU dairies, including MPC85, from 300 kg; the specification and a Certificate of Analysis for every batch come with your quotation.
The full specification, with your quotation.
We send the specification sheet for the grade and batch you would buy, and help you choose between the grades. Tell us your product and volume; after a short review of your project we send it with your quotation.
| What the specification covers | Details |

| Chemical data | Protein, moisture, fat, lactose, ash and pH, with limits and test methods |
| Physical and sensory data | Colour, taste, solubility and scorched particles |
| Microbiology | Total count, yeasts and moulds, Enterobacteriaceae, staphylococci, Salmonella, Listeria |
| Nutrition | Typical nutrition declaration for your label |
| Status | Allergen declaration, GMO status, packing and shelf life |
Where milk protein does what whey cannot.
| Product | Why milk protein |
|---|---|
| Protein puddings and desserts | Casein builds body and a spoonable texture |
| High-protein yogurts and quark-style products | Creaminess without extra fat |
| Protein bars | Softer texture over shelf life in blends with whey |
| Thicker shakes and meal replacements | A fuller mouthfeel and slower protein release |
| Second grade next to whey | Keeps the protein claim when whey prices spike |
MPC or whey?
Whey protein (WPC80, WPI90) is fast, thin and mixes clear or milky. Milk protein carries casein, which thickens and binds water. Many brands use both: whey for the shake, MPC for texture or as a planned second grade in the specification.
A useful hedge
When whey concentrate prices peaked in 2026, brands blended in milk protein to protect margins without changing the protein claim. Specifying an MPC grade as an approved second grade early makes that switch a paperwork step, not a reformulation. See the whey protein price report.

Milk protein concentrate, answered.
What is milk protein concentrate (MPC)?
The proteins of skimmed milk, casein and whey in their natural ratio, concentrated by filtration and spray-dried. The number in a grade name such as MPC85 refers to its protein level; beyond the concentrates comes milk protein isolate.
Which MPC grade should I choose?
It depends on the product: higher grades for high-protein shakes and bars, others for yogurts, desserts and cost-sensitive blends. Tell us your product and target protein per serving, and we propose the grade with its specification.
Where can I see the specification?
We send it on request, for the grade and batch you would buy. Use the form below; we reply within 24 hours and, after reviewing your project, send the specification with your quotation.
What is the difference between MPC and whey protein?
Whey protein is only the whey fraction of milk protein. MPC also contains casein, which thickens, binds water and digests more slowly. That makes it better for puddings, yogurts and bars, and whey better for thin, fast-mixing shakes.
Can MPC replace whey in a shake?
Partly. A blend keeps the protein content and adds body. A full switch changes the texture noticeably, so we recommend testing a blend first.
What is the minimum order?
300 kg per grade, and MPC can ship on the same load as whey grades.
